I'm wanting to purchase "Real Estate Finance and Investment Manual" by Michael R. Cummings, but as I'm someone from Canada, I want to make sure it pertains to Canadians if it happens to be a book written for USA or somewhere else. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if this is an American book and if so is it still applicable to people in Canada as I'm sure it will be a great educational book.

@Logan Crowder

I have a book by that title, but the author is Jack Cummings.   The basic principles in the book will be beneficial, but much of the book is U.S.A. specific.  You will need to find a companion Canadian focused source to learn the ins-and-outs of financing, regulation, and taxation in Canada.

Good introductory books for Canada are:

Douglas Gray - "Making Money in Real Estate."  {this focuses on residential real estate}

Douglas Gray - "The Canadian Landlord's Guide"

Steven Cohen & George Dube - "Legal, Tax, and Accounting Strategies for the Canadian Real Estate Investor"

@Julie Broad - "More than Cashflow: The Real Risks & Rewards of Profitable Real Estate Investing"   I had already been investing for several years before Julie's book came out, but believe a new investor would gain more benefit from the book.

I am not a fan of Don Campbell's writings {it may be style thing} or his ACRE scheme and RIEN network which sells "guru-style" education, but there are many who have read his books and do like them.

Don Campbell - "Investing in Canada: Creating Wealth with the ACRE System"

If you want a resource for commercial real estate in Canada:

Pierre Boiron and @Claude Boiron"Commercial Real Estate Investing in Canada: The Complete Reference for Real Estate Professionals." It has a bit of an Upper Canada bias, but is a good reference to have on the shelf.

A good introduction to deal analysis, regardless on which side of the 49th you invest, is:

@Frank Gallinelli"What Every Real Estate Investor Needs to Know About Cashflow"

Mr. Gallinelli's book of case studies  "Mastering Real Estate Investment" is also worth reading.
