Mentor Compensation...What should I offer

I came across someone willing to guide me through the process of REI his way. My question for anyone who has ever had a mentor....What do you offer your mentor in exchange for help? Money? Partnering on a deal? A cash gift? Lets say he basically walked you through a deal and put you in contact with a bunch of his resources. Anyone who has ever acted as a mentor to somebody...what do you expect if anything?
