Will work for food.
I was leaving Kinko's after getting my mailers printed up, and decided to stop at Mickey D's to grab something fast and get home to get and the mailers out. I noticed a guy standing on the corner of the intersection holding a sign "will work for food". Mind you, this area is out were I live, a middle to upper class area. Certainly one wouldn't expect to see "these kind of people" where I live? As I drove past him to the redlight, I scrambled around my truck to check for a few bucks or at least some loose change, none to be found. BUT I did have my Big mac and fries? So I shouted out to him to come over here. He approached the truck and I said "do you want this, it's a Big Mac and fries? He said "yes, thank you". So just as the light turned green I handed off my lunch and away I went. (I was freaking starving)
PLEASE do not respond to this with "Gee Norm, your such a great guy", or "that was so nice of you". That is NOT what I'm looking for. REALLY!! I just hate seeing people like that.
It just hits home a bit, that any one of us could one day be in that situation. I am very thankful for the little bit I have...a new home, decent job, good health (for now, knock on wood). Maybe the guy was a scammer? Maybe he was BSing? I don't know, nor do I care, I just know I did something that made me feel good by helping someone out, regardless of the situation. It's good for the soul, and it's good karma. There are a lot of people less fortunate than I.
