My brother and I are planning a ski/snowboard trip to vermont, in the next month or so. Im wondering if anyone can recommend a ski resort or mountain in Vermont. Anywhere in vermont is fine.

We're looking for places with lots of people, that are generally popular destinations for snowboarders and skiers.

Ive heard sugarbush so far.

Hope you have a great trip. I live in Western MA (border of VT and NH) There's lots of great places to go, I've heard Okemo, Stratton, and Killington are nice. I'm not a skier myself but I worked in Brattleboro VT for several years and those were the resorts of choice.

Have fun and be safe!

I went skiing in Okemo about 10 years ago. It is a great place to go. Killington is not far from there so you could split your time.

If you head up a little further Stowe and Smugglers Notch are great places to ski.I frequent Jay Peak too and would definately recommend it, but that's way up there - CA border.

Anthony,

There are lots of good areas in Vermont. It is hard to recommend something specific without knowing more about the skiing/boarding you enjoy and your level but here are some suggestions. Also, I am a somewhat of a bump nut so that may bias me to some areas you might not care for if all you care about is good cruising. It has also been several years since I have skied any of them. I have skied Killington, Stowe, Okemo, and Stratton. My order of preference would be Okemo, Killington, Stowe and Stratton.

Okemo was my favorite by far. Soft bumps and very nice cruising. Killington is huge and has quite a variety of terrain but can be icy, which isn’t much of a problem, again, depending on your level. Has some excellent bump and tree skiing with plenty of cruising. If you are a bump hound, you must ski Outer Limits. But unlike a lot of places I have skied, once you start down it, you cannot bail out so you are committed to finish it. Monster bumps. Longest run their was like 10 miles that winded all over the place and is a green trail. Stowe was decent as well. For some reason, Stratton didn’t impress me as much. Maybe it was more posers there who only care what they looked like and not about the skiing but I can’t give a really good reason otherwise. It doesn’t offer anything the others can’t give you.

My favorite place to stay was in Killington and is the Cortina Inn (cortinainn.com). I have never stayed anywhere else in my skiing in Vermont, even though it is a drive to some places I have mentioned above. Excellent lodge, reasonable prices, a real breakfast. Feels like a real lodge in the Alps. Excellent service. Enough said.

You are getting me thinking I need to go on another trip. I have only skied once this season so far. Maybe time to head back to Snowshoe or Holiday Valley again.

Have fun and good luck. You can’t go wrong in Vermont.

Mike
