Rich Dad, Poor Dad stock investment workshop

Hi! I attended this free workshop for Rich Dad, Poor Dad Education. I feel I learned a bit from attending. I went with my boyfriend and there were two parts to the workshop. The first guy was a REI and he brushed up on starting REI with no money, working a 12-hour job with a family to feed. He discussed contract agreements and how that is how he started. He said that his first deal brought him $9000. He said he had no money so he used OPM. These private lenders let him borrow $1K to close a deal with a bank. He took the borrowed money, someone else showed up to seal the deal with the bank, and he made $9k, but as he never owned the contract, it was the private lender who profited the most making $25K out of the deal.

I'm curious...is this possible with a contract agreement? I didn't understand how he made the $9K for just borrowing the $1K. I know I'm missing some in-between info,  but if anyone has any idea, please help me clear this up.

Anyway, I didn't sign up for the RE workshop as I have BP, but my bf is a stock market novice and I want to have multiple streams of income like he does. So he & I both signed up for the stock training. $299 for two people so $150 each. Does anyone have any review on that particular workshop?
