Oscar Predictions
I thought this thread might take our collective minds off of the economic vortex we're in.
Anyone have any predictions on the Oscars?
I think Cate Blanchet will get at least one oscar. And I also believe Atonement will get best picture (I havent actually seen it but I really want to).
I also wanted to comment on Heath Ledger dying. He was my favorite actor. I have "loved" him since the first time I saw him in a movie. I even bought Brokeback Mountain but could not watch it (still in the wrapper). He was robbed of the Oscar in my opinion on that- even though I didnt watch it. I have been in total shock since I heard about it. He was an awesome actor and it is a shame that there will be no more movies blessed with his presence and acting abilities. If it would have been anyone else I probably wouldnt be this shocked. This is the same feeling I had when JFK, Jr was killed. I was even sad when Anna Nicole died, I always felt so sorry for her, especially when she lost her son, I dont actually know why but watching her life unfold on tv was like watching a train wreck. I remember when I was little and Elvis died. I was with my dad (my parents were divorced) and when he brought me home I remember the house being very dark except for the TV on and my mom and all her friends were sitting there crying like they had lost a family member. Why do we as a society get so involved in celebrities and thier lives or in most cases deaths?
Speaking of death, and oscars, heath ledger died of an apparent overdose. Damn you hollywood.

My prediction is that the Academy Awards will not be the usual gala it is. They might just announce the winners in a press conference. At least until the Writer's strike is ended, that is what it will be. To many actors not only are members o the Writers Guild, but also are dependent upon the writers and won't cross the picket lines.
There will be blood for best picture
i haven't seen it yet, but Daniel Day Lewis is pretty much a genius.
True,
For Last of The Mohicans he spent 2 months living in the wilderness to prepare himself for his role, and for Gangs of New York, he learned his dialect from phonetically spelled books from the era. Also, during the entire filming process he never breaks character! He definitely deserves the award.
