How much to replace a septic tank in Westfield, MA? Should I run away from septic tank issues or are there usually less expensive alternatives to replacing?

Did the system already fail a Title V inspection?

If so what were the failure criteria? Sometimes you can go to the BOH and get approval to replace the failing components if it is something like just a bad D-Box or something.

Are you just assuming it will fail? If so you can have someone take a look at it (NOT do an "inspection" as they will have to file that with the BOH) and get some advice on what components might have issues and have someone take a look at those prior to getting an inspection.

All that being said if you don't think it will pass and town sewer is available getting a tie in to that will almost always be cheaper. Also if you are keeping it then it will save all the maintenance and pumping costs in the future. If you are flipping it then it is more attractive to the end buyer for that reason.

If that isn't an option and you need to redo the whole thing I would say $12-15K on the cheap side if you have a really small lot, are near water or there is ledge it can easily get over $30K.
