3 Things to NOT do at Your Office Holiday Party
Everyone has at least one memory of a work-related holiday party running amok, as they say. Whether from total boredom or unexpected guests, work holiday parties always have a good story or two that emerges afterwards. Here are 3 things to remember NOT to do at your office holiday party this year:
- Don’t drink too much: While many work-related holiday parties don’t have any alcohol present, there are many parties with far too much alcohol available. Particularly if there’s anxiety or boredom present at the party, don’t make the mistake of filling it with too much egg nog. Many embarrassing things have been said that were deeply regretted after having too much to drink at holiday office parties. If some of your co-workers don’t drink for religious reasons, it may be best to abstain altogether.
- Don’t play silly games: Unless there’s a majority consensus beforehand, don’t just spring some silly game on the group at your holiday party. Most people are too shy to engage in the game, or the game just may not be appropriate for work functions. Remember, although it’s a holiday party, it’s still a work function. Games are best played with close friends at home.
- Choose your “Plus 1” wisely: When choosing a guest to accompany you to a work holiday party, choose wisely. Unless it’s your spouse, make sure your guest won’t offend anyone by talking too much or drinking too much. There’s nothing worse than bringing a drunk guest where everyone is asking, “Who’s that?”
Anything else you would add to this list? Please share any experiences you have had at office holiday parties to put a smile on our faces today. Thanks for reading and have a safe holiday.
