Investing In Stocks

Hello everyone, I wanted to get some input on something that was suggested in the podcast a little while back. Do you think investing in the stock market (To include penny stocks) is a good way to build some capital for Real Estate Investing? I know next to nothing right now about stocks but have kept it in the back of my mind after hearing it on the show. I know it gets taxed a little differently but is it a low enough amount to be worthwhile? I would appreciate any info or suggestions on the matter.
