My HP all in one printer has crapped out on me and it makes me want to go "Office Space" on it.
Looks like I am going to just buy a new one, but not sure which one to go with. Anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking at Brothers but not sure if thats the best bet or not.

Before picking a printer decide how you want to use the item.
If you have a home network and you want the printer to sit in a specific room but be on the network then you have to check the printer can do that. Or if all you need is the printer plus a network hub with a USB port or similar.
This is mostly for people who work with a portable and want to roam the house. It is also for people who have more than one who might want to use the printer (children and parents with their own computers but needing to print from where ever they are on the network).
It is not hard. Just something to consider. Some all in one printers have a restriction as to what they can do on a network.
The above can vary if you are using a PC and Mac computers on the same network.

I just bought this all-in-one laser printer and it is AWESOME!!!
Brother MFC-8460N
It cost ~ $450. It's a network laser printer and it's FAST (30 ppm). The scans are excellent and it will scan to the internet (great for my business). The document feeder is rated for 50 sheets, although I've run over 75 at a time. It scans (flat bed or doc feeder), prints, copies legal size. The fax is quick and simple.
I can't say enough good about this unit. Nobody I've talked to knows about it, but it outperforms anything in this price range.
Printing cost ~ $.03 per page! If you need a work horse printer, copier, fax, scanner for under $500 check it out.

Oh, and I should add that the hp website offers printer cartridges cheaper than any store around here (including walmart) and its free overnight ground shipping on them.

I have a HP 6180 AIO and love it. Considered a laser but wanted color (for the kids). And the color lasers were too pricy plus I wanted a wireless model. Only draw backs are the paper try doesn't hold enough paper and it is not legal size. Other than that the price is great for what I need it for. Oh, one more thing, there are 5 seperate color cartridges plus black so when you run out of one color you are not replacing the whole color cartridge.

The 5 separate cartridges is more of a marketing idea than anything. Have you seen the cost per page or how much (or little) ink they contain? It's funny how people feel it's an advantage.... plus now you have to buy 5 cartridges instead of 2.
Anyhow.... Just random thoughts. I'm glad you like your printer and it meets your needs.

Yes indeed I now have to buy 5 seperate color cartridges but they are $9 a piece instead of a whopping $35 bucks a pop (just to replace one used up color). If one color is lost, then I only buy one color. Very unlikly chance that I will have to buy several at one time, and if one is empty, I don't throw the rest away. Maybe it is a marketing ploy, I just feel better knowing I only replace color that I run out of.
Don't know the stats on pp cost but if you search reviews they are decent for a AIO printer under $350.

It does work out better than a 2 cartridge system. Depending on what you print you will drain 1 color before the others in many cases. There is no reason to throw out what is left (the other colors) if you can just fill up the one that needs it.
I have a Canon with 5 items. Costco has a good price for the cartridges.

Yes. I realize the theory and behind the multiple cartridges. The bottom line.... What is the cost per page for printing? Isn't that most important thing?
My point is simply... don't think because the printer has 5 cartridges vs 2 cartridges that you are saving money on printing. Research it, you may be surprised.
As far as all-in-one options go, HP has a lot of good ones. I have heard many friends with them speak about how great they are. Also, doesn't Kodak have one out that is supposed to cut down on the cost of the refill ink? I think it costs more to purchase but the ink is worth it if you use ink often.
