Split a 2 flat in chicagoland area or househack?

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. So, I've been spending a bunch of time nerding out and researching. I've been planning on purchasing a 2 flat to house hack. Recently, a friend asked if I was interested in "getting a 2 flat together." He and his family would live in one unit, I would live in the other unit with mine. My initial response is that I'm not interested. From his perspective, splitting a 2 flat is better than purchasing a SFH. Sure, I get it. From my perspective, I'm not necessarily saving much money, getting landlord experience, or earning as much equity. I decided to post, as I didnt exactly know what to search. I was hoping that someone maybe could offer some advice or questions that I maybe had considered. Thanks for any help or advice!

Cheers,

Connor

@Forrest Williams @Paul De Luca

Thank you both for responding. You both confirmed what I was already thinking. I was wondering if I was maybe missing something. Sometimes it's a good feeling to hear other folks reinforce what I had already been suspecting. Thanks again!
