Where to live and invest in Florida?

Question

Bottom Line: Where in Florida should we visit on our road trips over the next couple months as we research where to raise a family (top priority) and start our new careers (Doctor and Real Estate Agent)?

My wife is completing her family medicine residency soon and I'm completing my time in the Military. I am going to intern at a Real Estate brokerage during the final months of my Army contract and complete my Florida Real Estate Agent license. My wife wants to work in an Urgent Care or Family Medicine clinic for a few years until we have the capital to open her own practice. I'm currently working on finishing up my first real estate investments (two flips and a rental) and want to become a Real Estate Agent that specializes in helping out of state investors once I move to Florida.

We have two trips planned, one over New Years to the Atlantic coast (Jacksonville to Port St. Lucie) and Orlando and another at the end of February for the Gulf side (Tampa to Fort Meyers).

I'm open to all advice, opinions, and recommendations on this question. Thanks to all in advance for taking a minute to share your two cents.

I agree with @Malgorzata Sadowska Gainesville is a great area.

Clearwater, Naples, and Tampa areas are very strong areas as well.

On the East Coast, Port St. Lucie is rapidly growing. West Palm and Fort Lauderdale are also great destinations

Naples Florida !

As a medical microbiologist,  investor and Realtor for 10 years full time in Naples , but first of all a mom raising a daughter in a good area with A rated schools . The infrastructure in Naples is very attractive for all, while Naples overs a healthy small beach town flair . Yes , we do have a overload of snowbirds and this is the part for us medicals and real estate professionals.

Working with a PH D. from Detroit , he is now investing in several Urgent Care Facilities in North East Naples .  This is exactly where Naples with have new developments coming in the next years with a large infrastructure for future families .

Naples is a highly desired international hub on the west coast , not only the " US 55+ soon to be retired couples " and their kids , also many european & canadian investors. Businesses  in Home offices & IT companies , Med. Arthrex are existing &  provide a healthy huge lifestyle jump for everybody .

Another good option for what you laid out is Gainesville, FL - a town based around University of Florida, which has a research Shands hospital. It's close to Jacksonville.

If you end up in South Florida, please let me know. We have a ton of medical opportunities AND I'd love a real estate intern / team member:)

Hey Trevor congrats on the family move to Florida I would like to start by saying that I live in Port St Lucie it's an amazing place. It's wonderful, it's close to a lot of places like for example Miami or Orlando, West Palm, Tampa and etc you're really in a nice point because everything is accessible to you being in Port St Lucie (don't live in the excitement live nearby so you can drive to it enjoy it and escape it after you're done) and it's a wonderful place to raise a family when you get here check out the Traditions area it's a wonderful family area and you probably would really like it also there are great beaches near by if you like the water. Very relaxing for the most part. Chill and Quiet are two words I'd use to describe PSL; so give us a visit...and enjoy!!!

Lakeland. They have dozens of urgent cares, the busiest ER in the country last year, and 2 new stand alone ER's, and a huge physician's group called Watson Clinic. It's on I-4 so tampa and Orlando are quick trips.

If you look at any of the market data - namely job growth, income growth, population growth, etc. the "hot" areas right now are within the Tampa, Orlando, Fort Myers/Cape Coral, Jacksonville MSAs.  I'm looking specifically at multi-family within Tampa/Orlando/Fort Meyers as we love the areas and plan to move there eventually anyway.

@Trevor Andersen Congrats on making the leap out of AD brother, I'm working on that as well.

I would also consider the FL panhandle, though I think the options you laid out would give more possibilities to the wife's profession.  Up here you have a drivable and popular vacation market from Destin to Panama City Beach, as well as a bunch of military bases between Pensacola to Panama City Beach.  I focus on military and investor clients because they are who I understand the most and it's a good market for it.
