New Member From Candler NC
Hey everybody, My name is Seth and I have been contemplating the idea of real estate investing for a while now and have always been fascinated with the concept of creating long term passive income sources. I have yet to purchase a property but I am currently trying to get myself educated on what exactly I want/can do at this point while building up my credit score because I simply never had one. I hope through real estate and with the help of the Bigger Pockets community to achieve my goal of financial freedom (I'm sure the same goal as many) because I want more out of life than a 9-5 job and a 401-K. I want to live life on my terms and have my money work for me for a change. I'm 22 and live in Candler right outside of Asheville NC and I would like to house hack a small multi family home or even a single family if need be, I don't have a lot of capital for a down payment so I would be looking at an FHA loan most likely and even though I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger on a deal I would still like to increase my knowledge and be able to find deals so that when I am ready I can capitalize with confidence. So far i've just been looking at the MLS around my area learning to analyze property but can't seem to find many small multi that just need minor repair. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated such as how much I should be saving before making an offer? That will determine how long I need to wait because I don't want to find myself in a hole that I could've avoided in the first place. I don't care as much about making money on this property yet as it will be my primary residence, I just want to get started. To summarize, my main question is where do I start? What measures do I need to take to get myself ready? Is there a ballpark on how much capital I need? And what is the best way to find deals for somebody in my position? Thank you so much for your time and any advice you're willing to spare!

Hi @Seth Phillips! I'm local to you, and am an investor as well. I am happy to help you start thinking on financing, best approach, building credit scores, resources, etc. Perhaps DM me if you're interested. Also, we would love to have you join us at the next Asheville BP meet up. We have two meetings coming up this month. One on the evening of the 17th, and the other on the morning of the 24th. If you DM me your email address, I'll get you invited.
