New blood in Baton Rouge, LA.
Hello all, my name is Lewis Tabor. I'm 21, young I know, and I'm really interested in learning to properly invest in real estate. What experience do I have? Honestly, none. As of now I am here to observe and learn before diving in. I work a full time job, and I've come to the conclusion that I just throw money away. So, my intentions are to learn how to properly invest so that I can take what little money I have and hopefully produce passive income. I haven't set up my profile, but will be working on that in my free time. I am excited to be here, and I hope I can get to know some awesome people. Thanks!

This is a great place to start Lewis. I was about your age when I first started getting educated about REI too. You are on the right track. Talk to people who are doing what you want to do. You will find that, while EVERBODY can offer advice about REI, few have actually done it. If you know a person who owns a car, do you think they can tell you how to run a successful car dealership? I doubt it, but for some reason a lot of people who own a house think they can advise you about the real estate business.
You don't have to wait until you know everything, because you never will know everything, but you definitely need to know what you're doing before you dive in. You will find a lot of courses and training materials online that cost good money while you can learn most of what they teach right here for the time it takes you to read or listen to podcasts and other materials. (Some will call that free, but you should always place a value on your time.) I would also recommend you join The RING (Real Estate Investors Group) in Baton Rouge. You can find them on meetup.com.
This business is pretty simple, but it's definitely not easy! You have to do your homework and avoid the traps that are found in shortcuts!
