Looking to start investing in some buy-and-hold

Hey everyone, we're a military family (my wife is a career Soldier). I've got a good tech job, but we're looking to diversify a bit. We have a house in Portland, OR, and a house here near Fort Knox, KY.

We had great tenants in our home in PDX, but rent was barely covering the mortgage. PDX is also very unfriendly to landlords, so we are selling the home there, and will be investing the proceeds here in Kentucky in two (according to my wife) or three (I hope) homes that we can rent and earn some passive income once she's done with the Army in ten-or-so years.

We expect one more duty station after we leave Kentucky and hope to use our VA benefits to purchase a home wherever that might be to add to the portfolio (We really wish we'd been smarter and done the same in Denver and Long Island).

I hope you're enjoying that retirement! My wife just changed from NCO to Warrant Officer so that has extended her time in the Army by quite a few years.
