Hi BP community! My husband (Jake) and I are brand new to real estate investing. The interest began a few years ago, but we didn’t find Bigger Pockets until last year. I listened to the occasional podcast while we dealt with other things that needed our attention. We are to a point now where we are able to dedicate more time to learning all things real estate. Last month I started reading Josh and Brandon’s How to Invest in Real Estate. That has been very helpful! There are a few more books I’d like to read over the next few months and I’ve been looking through the forums to learn also. We are taking this time to build up our savings as well as our knowledge. We plan to start searching for our first deal in early 2022. But we are also open to beginning sooner if things fall into place earlier.

We have three young children that are the motivation behind our desire to begin this journey in real estate. Jake has a great job, but the amount of time away from home is not what we want. Eventually, it would be nice if we didn’t have to rely on his demanding job as our main source of income.

We're currently thinking about starting our journey with wholesaling and flipping until that generates enough income for Jake to reduce his hours. We would ultimately like to land on buying single family homes to rent out. While this is our current plan, we are still learning about other investment strategies and we have our minds fully open. We realize this plan could change as we learn about these strategies. We are particularly interested in learning more about raw land and the BRRRR strategy.

We would love to hear what you have to share about your experience. And we look forward to connecting with others in our community. We live in Isle of Wight County and would like to stay close to home in our real estate journey, but we do kind of live in the middle of nowhere and expect to possibly work more in the Hampton Roads area.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to talking with you.

Joelle
