Question about working with contractor

I am currently looking for a second investment property. I have a somewhat friend I went to school with who is now a general contractor. Debating on whether I should ask him if he wants to invest in a property together so maybe I could get a better discount on the home improvements and also get to go through the step by step process on the house rehab. Or just ask him if he wants to take on a job of rehabbing a home I invest in myself. Anything opinion helps, thank you BP members!
