Multi-Business Structure Advise needed, Denver Colorado

Hey Everyone,

Long time BP creeper, first time poster... I am a 28 yr old Landscape Designer and just recently bought my own investment home. I have always had a dream to build out a multi-disciplinary firm that operates in 3 sectors of Real Estate as follows: A design firm (or branch) which would include Architecture, Interior, and Landscape Architecture services; A development branch would include the managment and construction of land; then an investment and property management branch, which would define the acquisition, hold, and individual management of each property or land.

As mentioned I have started investing and managing my own property which would be part of the investment and property management branch, and as I grow, I wish to slowly build out the other branches. I am working on my branding, website, and business plan and model and am struggling a bit to understand the best means and methods to keep these three branches essentially under one name and mission. Current idea is to have one company name with others being a subset of this name. I would want the overall company to have a brand, logo, and mission, etc... but the subset companies would operate under the same name, but have the ability to slightly change the branding, logo, mission, etc... Each individual branch would essentially operate individually, but can also operate as a whole and when combined they speak to the overall company operations, missions, brand, etc.. I want each company to keep each other liable, that would have partners or principals that manage each branch, but together have a say in major operations of each other branch. In other words shareholders or board of the overall business, but principals and managers of the individual branches. Though I am also thinking that underneath the branch of Investment and management firm I may want each individual property to operate as its own llc to eliminate the liability on property by property basis.

I am looking for several things:

  • Some advice or brain storming on what the best structure is for my businesses whether it be Umbrella, DBA, individual llc, or other?
  • Any CPAs or Attorneys that have experience in business structure regarding Architectural Firms, Construction and Development, and Investment and Managment, on and individual basis, but preferably in multi-business structures. Particularly in the Denver CO region?

This is a long term process and I know I don't have all the pieces and parts together for me to begin incorporating, I am in the planning stages on whether I need to be writing up three separate business plans or it could all be in one, and understanding how they can operate together as a whole and as separate businesses.

I appreciate any direction, comments, and criticism, lets chat!
