Hi - RGB here from London, England.
I've spent the last couple of years assembling a US rental portfolio of Condos and SFHs in FL: Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville; GA: Atlanta; and NC: Charlotte. I also have a portfolio of rentals in the UK and India but for the moment, the US is the most attractive market for me.
My short-term objective is to build an income stream but the priority in the medium-to-long term is capital growth so I tend to buy good value but better quality units (not the bottom-end high income properties).
I started with turnkey units - ready rehabbed, ready tenanted. Recently, having built a network of property managers and contractors on the ground in my preferred locations, I've started buying some wholesale units and taking on the risk of rehab and tenanting myself. With careful selection, it's working well and delivering far better economics.
I started buying in Charlotte NC just three months ago and am curious to see how things work out there. Initial indications are positive.
Look forward to new ideas and insights from fellow investors on biggerpockets.com.
Best, RGB
