Real estate student trying to get started in Portland Oregon

Hey BP! My name is Josh West and I am relatively new to the Portland Metro Area.

My only background in RE is when I started the Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program at PSU last fall. I become interested in the power of RE after hearing about the BP podcast almost 2 years ago now and have hopes of achieving financial independence before I turn 30, 6.5 years to go!

I wanted to gain more experience so I currently work as a leasing agent at an apartment complex, it gives me great flexibility to learn more about RE during and outside of work and school.

I have now started the search for residential or small multi-family properties in my area to hopefully partner with a fellow student I met in the program. It is scary to think about actually jumping in, but I am excited and hope to have at least one deal under my belt before I turn 24 next year.

If you are in the Beaverton/Portland area please let me know, I am trying to step outside of my comfort zone and meet new people!

(P.S. - if you are a skier who loves to charge and skis at Mt. Hood Meadows, I would love to meet up this winter!)

Hi Josh,

When you get your first deal (and I know you will) if you need contractors I can give you contact info.  The company I started In Portland 10 years ago before I moved out here to Maui is still going.  Under a new name but the same guys I worked with are running it.  They're solid, licensed GC's, and talented.  If you or any else in Portland need a good General Contracting or remodeling company PM me and we can exchange info.

Mahalo and good luck with your journey.

Hey Travis, I appreciate your confidence! Your company will be top of mind when I land a deal, thanks for letting me know! I think I know someone else that may need a GC, I'll send you a PM.

Thanks again.
