My First Experience With Real Estate - My First Month

For the last decade I have been working a nine to five. I enjoy my work - I am a mechanical engineer by trade and am a senior manager currently - but I have always felt a draw to own my own rental property. Before I studied engineering I was in construction. Many of my late teenage years were spent on the job site. We would witness the occasional owner stroll in. They were very unassuming individuals. Never dressed and pressed. These owners would arrive in an old minivan or an antiquated coupe. We would try to imagine the juxtaposed life that they must live. To us they were an enigma.

Now that I have a couple more years under my belt, I now realize that these owners were just like me. They were always like me. They are the average individual with a regular job but trying to break into a better life through investing their resources in real estate. Now it is my turn in the sun!

I am so excited to commence this part of my life. My fiance and I have been saving for a home but the more research that I undertake, the more I see that the standard 30 year mortgage is perhaps not the best method to create wealth through properties. I have since turned my gaze to owning a multi-family home - perhaps hacking my way through the first year or two!

My experience with BiggerPockets has been great! I have enjoyed the online learning tools and videos. Not only that but I have reached out to individual to connect with great responses. The environment is open and friendly to my surprise. I look forward to meeting some of these individuals and furthering my understanding of the business. With my recent life experiences of balancing multi-million dollar budgets and armed with a strong understanding of building maintenance I am sure to carve a trail that will ensure my future as well as those around me who wish to work as a trust. That is how to truly be great - not by being the lone wolf - but by understanding that the journey is filled with sage partners that can enrich your experiences as well as your pockets. Let the journey continue! Many thanks to you all!
