College vs Real Estate Investing

Joey Schad
Posted

Hello all,

I’m a 19 year old college freshman at the University of South Dakota. I know, and have known for well over a year, that real estate investing is what I want to do for a living. I’m currently attending college, but don’t know if I necessarily should be. My roommate and I are both considering dropping out, working, and going into real estate together. I'm sure you all know that making a decision like this can be frightening.  We are both from Rapid City, South Dakota, so if there is anyone on here from Rapid or Sioux Falls that would be willing to help us out, we would massively appreciate it. We both have been learning as much about it as possible over the last year or so, but there are still a few things that we're not so sure of. We primarily want rental properties and to build passive income over time, but we are also open to starting out with a flip or other vehicle to get our feet wet and make some money. Again, any advice/feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

@Joey Schad

Are you familiar with House Hacking? Perhaps try a 2-4 unit. I think that is a great way for you guys to start with minimal money down. It will be enough to cut your teeth on and get some property management experience while having a huge expense eliminated.

Best of luck
