New from San Diego County
Wow, I didn't realize that I've been lurking for nearly 4 months. BP has been a great source of info so far. Thank you to all that selflessly help others here.
My wife and I, mostly my wife, will soon be taking on the lions share of management of her family's trust. Which is to say that she is the most responsible of the siblings. As such she will probably retain "checkbook control" and be the primary contact with the professional service providers.
We are looking for...
People to network with in the San Diego (Ramona) area.
Help in finding local experienced real estate support professionals (CPA's, attorneys, agents etc.)
Beyond the "trust" we are interested in learning more about becoming involved as HML's. I think this more suits our goals and I don't think that we wish to pursue more rentals at this time at least not in SoCal.
My background is retired USN with a little retail afterwards. Owned one rental during my first enlistment, many years ago.
My wife's background is heavy retail, many years of ownership. She's recently been managing the family's portfolio of SFR's and a few commercial properties.
best

Thanks for signing up after 4 months of lurking, Jon Anderson! We appreciate your membership and of course, your service. Jump in and get active -- the fun really starts when you begin to interact and make new colleagues and connections. Good luck!
I've been lurking because I haven't had a need or felt that I had anything to offer. I still have little to offer but the need is getting bigger :)

Bless you Jon Anderson and welcome to the Tribe called BP.
If you mosey up to Los Angeles, lets go get a beer or coffee.
Semper Fi, from an old Marine. . .
. . . and of course, thanks for driving the boat!
Urah,
Tevis
Hi Jon,
Great question. I suggest you check on SDCIA (San Diego Crreative Investors Association) and introduce yourself to Bill Tan. He is the President there and long history of trustability and knowledgeable in the areas you mentined. Plus, he can make sure you get plugged into the local investor scene and avoid the more well known sharks.
One last piece of advice....don't do ANYTHING! with regard to investing until you thoroughly understand it. Just my two cents.
Oh and also see if you can hook in wiht Gene Trowbridge or Kim Taylor or Jillian Sidoti. They all help train people in the arena of hard money lending and syndications.
Good luck!
Hey Jon Anderson! I just got my first rental in Ramona!
The guys who mentioned the local clubs are right they are great for networking and learning more. Don't forget NSDREI and FIBI San Diego.
Are your properties in Ramona? I didn't know a thing about the area but now I'm diving in head first. See you do have something to offer! You know that area better than I ever could.
Cheers!

How on earth did you get a cash-flowing rental in Ramona? Where is it?
We have been looking for clubs the met in the day time. My wife hates driving at night and I quit driving for health reasons.
All of her families properties are in Ramona. Acquired decades ago.
We would love to help you going forward. Are you looking to do more here? How can we help?

Jon Anderson, for the most part, you'll find that REIA's and investor groups meet in the evening for two reasons:
1. Experienced investors who do this for a living are spending the days interacting with contractors, lawyers, agents, sellers, other investors, yada yada yada - their workday. They don't want to take hours out of their day to attend a networking meeting.
2. Intermediate and new investors frequently have day jobs and can't attend during the day.
So the groups meet when the largest numbers of attendees are available. Not to say day meetings don't exist, but if you don't find one, you'll know why.

Hey Jon!
Picked up a four plex, in the rough area (A St.) with Heroin dealers I am removing. Once we have the two lower units fixed up we will be doing really well on it.
I am stoked on it. Maybe you can come by and see it when we begin work. I'm looking to grab a few more out there since I have the one now.
I'll send you my contact info.
The family has some SFH on A street. And some good commercial on Main. Don't ask in public :) When we do speak, you'll know the name.
Awesome! I'm making friends with all the landlords in the area.
I'll PM you, so stoked you posted so we could get introduced.
