Wondering what qualifications required for property management.

I am a current college student in my junior year at the University of Kentucky. Recently I switched my major to management from marketing but still heavily considering double-majoring in both. I believe being a property manager would be a good place to start to get my "foot in the door" in real estate. The idea is to try to get some experience in what properties require to keep them functioning and to really learn hands-on when it comes to fixing properties and how it's done. The question I am trying to figure out is "What qualifications are required for someone with a management degree to get a job in managing properties and what will make me stand out?" One successful real estate investor on youtube named Ben Mallah said something along the lines of "Before you can work for yourself in real estate and know what you're doing, you should/need to spend some years working for other people so you can learn the business." I believe this is some good advice but I was just wanting some reassurance on this plan and also would like to know these qualifications that may make me stand out.

Thank you for your responses!!!
