New Member living in SoCal investing in Upstate NY

Hello,

My name is Mike I'm new to the investing world with my only experience coming on the other side of the fence as a Mortgage Funder. I'm currently employed in the Mutual Fund industry in Orange County CA. I have been in CA for 12 years now but I grew up in NY.
I'm looking to purchase my first multi-family w/in the next 3 months in the Buffalo/Rochester area of NY. My focus is going to be on establishing an income stream with a buy/hold rental philosophy. The intent is for my wife and I to move back to NY to take care of family and establish an investing business together. We are in the midst of writing a business plan with a base goal of hitting 5k+ per month in passive income in year 5.
I signed up at BiggerPockets to continue my education, I need some real world guidance and knowledge. I look forward to soaking up all the info I can and making friends, mentors, and contacts. Additionally whenever I can add to the mix I will be more than willing.
