First Time Homebuyer! Looking for investors' input

Hi everyone!

First of all, please forgive me if there is already a dedicated thread or another place for this discussion. I just signed up for the forum and wanted to jump in.

My fiancee and I are looking for a house (Long Island, NY if anyone is familiar with the area). The market is crazy with houses going for tens of thousands above asking, sometimes all cash, within 48 hours of listing.

Based on everyone's expertise, what can we do to look for hidden gems that might be getting overlooked in all this craze?
