I'm not sure where to start

I'm 19 years old, and have learned a lot about the stock market from my staff sergeant, and I know my dad makes money off rental properties, however my parents are divorced and I don't see him often. I want to learn how to invest my money in rental properties and I'm not sure where to begin. I don't know how much money I should save before getting a loan, or how any of it works. I have carpentry experience and could put that to use, but I want this to be more of a passive thing for the most part (if that's possible). I've been looking around at houses in my area and found a foreclosed house that needs a little work to it (judging off the pictures only), but overall I have absolutely no clue what I am doing, where to begin, or the process of it all. I appreciate any advise and guidance.
