Newbie intro from Los Angeles

Hello everyone,

My name is Kieth Truong, and I'm new to real estate investing.  My journey started or should have started when I stumbled upon Brandon Turner's "The Book on Rental Property Investing".  To be honest, I started the book, but didn't quite finish it 2 years ago.  Not coincidentally, I created this account about 2 years ago, but no action was taken.  For the last 6 months, I've been reading more of his books, and getting more motivated to get my first deal.

After being to a few BiggerPockets meetups, attending a few webinars, and listening to the BP podcasts, I know that I want to be a landlord in the LA area.  For my first property, I'm hoping to get into some light fixer uppers.  However, I do recognize that I do not have the experience to take on full renovations, and definitely hoping to learn more as I go.

I just want to introduce myself, and hopefully someday, I can look back at this post and realize how far I will have come.  If you have any advice for a newbie on how to get started in the Los Angeles market, I'm all ears.

@Keith Truong

My advice is to look up and understand rent control and how it applies in specific cities. The City of LA has the rent stabilization ordinance (RSO). Until you understand rent control and tenants rights you have no business investing in LA (IMHO)!
