Looking to Invest/Partner in Raleigh-Durham/Triangle

Hi everyone,

I’m a new RE investor based in NYC, with a background in architecture and RE development and project management. My goal is to build a rental/investment portfolio in growing markets with a view toward capital appreciation, but also want to hold properties for cash flow in the long term. My thought is to start small with BRRRing/fix-and-flipping SFRs and duplexes, and eventually work my way into larger multi-family opportunities. I’m an architect/developer at heart, so the dream would be to eventually do a lead a development deal of my own either by myself or with partners.

I am not personally high on my local market in the next RE cycle, and am looking to get connected and invested in an area (or areas) that forecast strong population and job growth, but are also relatively close to my home base in NYC.

I am looking to get started in the Raleigh area, and would like to have my first investment made this year (SFR, duplex, also open to partnering on a larger MF deal). I have not started building a team yet (lender, PM, local atty, and so on), but am looking to jump in and start getting connected. I recognize that I won't be able to fully do so from afar, and eventually have to come down and spend some time at local meetups and pound the pavement a little bit to get a better feel for the market. Am curious as to what people's experience has been in the local market, and what is realistic for me to expect not being based there.

Any advice, introductions, questions, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Nice to meet everyone and thanks in advance.
