NEWBIE INVESTOR FROM NYC

Greetings all,

My name is Brien and I am a newbie. I came across the BiggerPockets podcast one to two years ago through pure curiosity of wanting more for myself. To find a path to experience a different type of life than a typical 9-5. To grow a side hustle to “get out of the rat race”. Yes, another Rich Dad, Poor Dad reader that had his eyes opened towards a new way of thinking. But, what makes me different from all the other readers is that even though I haven’t been able to make my first deal yet, I have surrounded myself with experience and have been tapping into available resources. 

I have worked in the real estate industry in analyzing properties and underwriting appraisals. I am also a current property manager that manages two rental units, on top of that I handle maintenance for a 36 unit building and held multiple leadership positions in sales and operations. I currently work a full-time position at a financial technology company in a project management and marketing role. If I can offer any experience or insight to anybody in the BiggerPocket community, please feel free to contact me. I would be more than happy to jump on a call or even meet up for a cup of coffee if you are in the local area. 

Mentally, I am prepared to start my first deal but capital is a bit hard to raise to purchase something in the NYC area. Personally, for a newbie like me understanding a good deal vs bad deal is a bit hard. Especially with the prices in the housing market continuing to rise even in areas that are typically a not so favorable neighborhood. I have done some research in some real estate that isn't in NYC but not being from the area and not knowing the market scares me. I hope the community here at BiggerPockets is able to teach me what I have to learn and if there is someone that is able to provide guidance on how and where to start my first BRRRR investment.
