Getting Started in Colorado

Bradley Hollamby
Posted

Hey everyone, My name is Brad I'm currently based out of Colorado. I currently run a landscaping business with my brother. The business is extremely successful, I'm looking to use the earnings from the business to invest and ultimately give me some free time to spend with my (currently) 4 month old son. Landscaping is very seasonal; we hit it hard all summer and have a very mild winter in terms of work load. What this leads to is all summer long I leave the house before my son wakes up and I'm not home until after he goes to bed. While I don't shy away from hard work (grew up working a farm, graduated collage and was a state trooper by 21), I want the ability to take time off when I need to. Don't want to miss anything in my son's life.

My wife is in the process of getting her real-estate license to help build our income and investing power. I'm not looking to leave the landscaping business but if this new route works I'm hoping I can change my role within the business (less financially dependent on the current business) and give me the ability to take time off if needed.

Thanks!

It's good to be thinking about the future. Just be aware that for a good long while, your workload is going to increase, not decrease. It takes most people quite a while to build up to meaningful cash flow.

Just by coincidence, one OOS investor I know who is doing pretty well here in Indy is a former landscaper who lives in Denver.
