Aspiring REI in Ft. Lauderdale, FL

My name is Michael and I am a 28-year old aspiring REI located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I am originally from Huntington, WV but moved about 2 years ago in search of more lucrative opportunities. So far, no good! My degree is in hospitality management but I've yet to find anywhere in south FL that takes my experience + education serious. I've been trying to find the right angle to get my foot in the door with some real estate with the goal in mind of attaining financial freedom and not having to punch a clock every day.

My father owned a small roofing company for 30 years but passed away in 2008. I ran that company for a year following his death but it wasn't for me so I shut it down. He also had three investment properties that I managed until the estate split them up so I'm not a complete rookie! I have done a lot of research and continue to daily but I still can't seem to get the ball rolling. I'm at a point now where I haven't had steady employment in almost three years but I refuse to give up. I initially thought that wholesaling was the way I wanted to go. However, after talking with a few real estate veterans I know in this market it apparently isn't the "no cash needed" game it used to be. That has taken me back to square one as I have great credit but not much hard cash. I stumbled upon this site a few days ago which gave me renewed hope in my goal of becoming a successful REI.

I have been actively reading the forums absorbing the wealth of knowledge from you guys and can't tell you enough how much I appreciate the availability of information. There truly is not another site like this that doesn't try to charge an outrageous amount of money just to join. I welcome all input, suggestions, comments, opportunities, etc. Thanks in advance!
