Newbies with money and opportunity

I have the opportunity to flip a house that isn't in my state.  I recently acquired this property from my father.  It's in Long Island New York.  I could possibly pay my siblings out and own it myself although it seems the place needs a lot of work and some major updates.  This would be my first deal and some great advice is must.  Is it possible for me to rehab and sell this property long distance?  I'm wondering how I could get estimates on rehab... Preferably before I purchase it.
