Newbie looking to buy rental for son in college in Daytona Beach

Hi! I'm Dan and I am starting down the path to figure out if this is even a realistic idea!?!?

My wife and I are looking for a place close to Daytona Beach FL Airport for my son who is enrolled at ERAU to rent for the next couple years now that he's not required to stay on campus. We are located in Charlotte NC so this is going to be a long distance activity. Never done anything like this before and I'm hoping we did not start this process too late. We've started reaching out to local Real Estate agents (ranked highly on Angie's List) to feel out the scene...seemed like a good a place as any to start. Any help or direction the community can provide would be greatly appreciated.
