Hello BP community!

My name is Travis Steinemann and I am from Sandusky, Ohio which is a little town an hour from Cleveland.

I have not taken the plunge to invest yet, but am in a fairly unique position.

I am currently knocking another item off my bucket list, sailing around the world with my 68 year old dad. So far we have made it to Indonesia from San Diego, CA. The long ocean passages give me time to listen to the BP podcasts - downloaded of course - and read quite a bit. I have until March, then I will rejoin the workforce and start saving again, this time for real estate instead of sailing.

My professional history is as follows, I graduated with honors from Ohio State with a degree in finance and began working for a Fortune 50 company in cash forecasting and investing approximately five days after graduation. After two years I wanted to get sales experience but they wanted to keep me in the finance department so I left and joined a commercial insurance agency where I worked mostly with contractors and manufacturing.

After a year of busting my butt I missed the water, so I left the agency and started working on superyachts. I worked on yachts from 90 feet to 285 feet as a deckhand (think handyman/exterior maintenance where the standard is perfection) and traveled on them from Florida to Spain, Nova Scotia to Nassau, and Costa Rica to Thailand. I was still busting my butt, but working on the water was more fun.

The yachting job was great because they provide food and accommodation so I was spending less than $500 a month.

When I return to the workforce in March or April, I will begin investing either near Georgetown, Texas where I would move, or if I continued yachting I would invest in Sandusky, Ohio from a distance.

I am interested in buy and hold investing with distressed properties where I can add value, specifically multifamily as I would like to move to commercial once I have more experience.

I look forward to connecting with some of you and am excited to get involved in the forums.
