New Guy Here, Say Hello New Yorkers

I have been on BP for a couple months now, but never introduced myself.

I am currently closing on my first house (duplex) and will be house hacking it. I would love any advice or suggestions moving forward on that process. I plan on building my portfolio with possible student rentals (SF) or more residential multi's.

I would love any and all advice on landlording, thanks!

Best,

Bryan

We rent to a lot of students, single family housing that has 1-3 students in it. There's a couple of well-experienced student renter people on here @Will Gaston that can give you a lot of pointers. We virtually always get parent co-signers since few students can qualify even with student loan funds. Besides, most parents don't want to see their child start off life with an eviction, so you are virtually guaranteed to get paid. In fact, parents that *don't* want to co-sign for their children has been a significant red flag we have found.
