New and trying to get started

I'll try to keep it brief. I'm 30, spent most of my younger years in active drug addiction and ended up getting arrested and charged with a couple felonies. I've since gotten clean and been trying to play catch up for the years I wasted. Real estate has always peeked my curiosity and more recently I found bigger pockets and have been listening to podcasts every chance I get. Purchased a couple of their books and a few others as well. Basically I want to get into this the right way and I'm a little impatient. I don't even have the necessary funds if I even knew how to find a deal and not to mention as soon as I let my closest friends know what I'm looking at doing I'm met with doubt at laughter. Where do I go from here? Just keep reading and learning more? REIA meetups? Tell myself to slow down a bit? Guess I'm just looking for reassurance because this can get very overwhelming for a newbie.
