Beginning Our Real Estate Journey

Hello BP community! My name is Paige and I am an engineer working in the oilfield. My fiance and I both do not want to spend our lives working for other people, so we have decided to begin our journey into investing in real estate to create cash-flow for ourselves. We want to start in SFH, and are planning on beginning investing around the spring of 2020, in order to have plenty of capital for our first rental home purchase.

We are still in the process of researching rental markets and determining where we want to invest, however we have narrowed it down to a few areas: Akron/Canton, OH (my hometown), Orlando, FL (his hometown), Lubbock, TX (close to our work), or the Denver, CO metro-area (the place I went to college). We know that being absentee landlords makes life more difficult, so we will most likely choose Lubbock, but we want to hear from you all about what you would do in our situations!

Our business goals are as big as the West Texas sky, so we are eventually hoping to scale from SFHs all the way up to units with 100s of doors under one roof in large metro areas. We know this is a lofty goal, but by taking baby steps and calculated risks, we believe we can at least build a business from this, allowing us to leave our life-consuming day jobs.

So sorry for the long post; I have never mastered the art of being succinct. Looking forward to becoming a member of this community and learning from you all!
