Basement Flooding in KCK, help?
Hello everyone. I have a property in Kansas City, KS which has been receiving a lot of rain and has a basement that has flooded. I am looking for some good contractors to help me diagnose and fix the issue... I had some water standing around the home so I have done some grading myself and extended my downspouts but I had water coming in in multiple corners of my basement which suggests to me a possible foundation issue.. Installing a drainage system is likely to cost me 10-15k and I have already been quoted 10k just to clean the basement. The basement is about 1000sqft. Can anyone recommend a good contractor for this area or any other advice for how I may keep the water out without spending 20k+ in fixes? Or am I just screwed?

I have had similar situations in several of my properties and I have never had to resort to the drainage system on the inside (yet). I always focus on the outside and try to keep the water from getting to the foundation in the first place. It is generally less expensive and better for the health of the foundation in the long run. The grading and extending those downspouts are on the right track. I have also put in French drains around the exterior. It's not easy figuring out where that water is coming from and I have had to stand out there in the rain watching the water to try and figure it out. I too am in KCKS and all this heavy rain has got one of my properties getting water in it for the first time. In this case, I believe it's due to a very flat front yard that holds water. I'm putting in a series of French drains to take the water away.
