$300k cash, but no credit and job history
I moved abroad 14 years ago and I'll be returning this summer with my wife, 3 kids, and $300k. I don't have a job lined up and I have no credit or US employment history. During my time abroad, I filed 1040s but my reported income was low because our businesses were in my foreign wife's name. Since I have no W-2s and no credit, how difficult will it be for me to rent a home? What can I do now to improve my chances of qualifying?

@David Marks I imagine it all depends what market your looking in. I’m a broker in New York City, and I’ve put plenty of folks coming from Europe or Asia into apartments ranging from 3-6k a month with no US credit history and all kinds of creative work situations.
If the landlord feels uncomfortable with the work situation being undefined or the lack of US accounts - I typically suggest the renter offer to pay 6 months to a year up front while they reestablish themselves in the states.
Obviously, this assumes the renter has an otherwise solid application, references, and resources and of course they’re still required to pay the security and broker fees.
In short- its totally possible, just expensive.
