Newbie college student from Western Massachusetts
My name is Dillan Wilson and I'm a freshman at the University of Massachusetts Amherst studying mechanical engineering. I was first exposed to BP at the end of summer 2018 when I finished, "The Book on Rental Property Investing." I loved the book and it encouraged and motivated me to read many other books and listen to the BP podcast.
Since then, I've mowed through Set For Life, How to Invest in Real Estate, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Never Split the Difference, Richest Man in Babylon, Outliers, How to Win Friends and Influence people and a few others. My interest in real estate has greatly increased to the point where I want to buy a 3 or 4 unit property my senior year with an FHA loan that is close by to UMass. I want to house hack while renting out the remaining units to other students. I'm saving up money now for the down payment as I am fortunate and grateful that I don't have to worry about student loans.
While I talked to a few people about my plan, (my dad has 10 units and my past hockey coach is a real estate investor in my town) I figured that I should finally join the BP forum to gain more experience and knowledge by learning from experienced professionals. I love real estate and I love engineering and I want to own businesses in the future where I can follow both of my passions. I know BP is the best place to learn from people who have done what I want to do.
PS If you would like to learn a little more about me I invite you to watch a video I made recently about my engineering project from last semester. I know this isn't 'real estate' related, but the sticky thread by @Trexie implied that you want this business environment to have a sense of credibility among its members (which I think videos in general do a great job at).
Thanks for reading. I hope to learn a lot from this forum and I look forward to when I am able to contribute to it myself in the future!
