Chiel from The Netherlands

Hi everyone,

I'm Chiel, relatively new in REI. My background is in finance, accounting and currently working as CFO of an IT company. I'm 28 years old, just bought a new house for me and my girlfriend to live in and now looking forward to step into real estate investering.

I'm living in the Netherlands, in the eastern part (Deventer). My goals in real estate are to become financially independent by investing in rental units and probably later also in developing or rehab of buildings into apartments or houses. For this year, i've set myself a goal to buy at least two properties which have to generate me a cashflow of € 400,- per month.

What i'm currently looking for is just properties, since the market in the Netherlands is quite overheated. My strategy for this is:

- I have found contacts with an experienced financial advisor which will give me access to the investor market and who is an investor by himself.

- I have set up contacts with various real estate agents in my region

- I have joined some meet-ups and thinking about setting up my own in my city.

I hope to find here more information about how to handle my investments, how to finance them and find other real estate investors in my region which I can meet. And looking forward to meet you all!

Hi @Chiel Slinkman, nice to have you on the BP community.

You are on to the right things with your goals. Make sure to make contacts of use your already existing contacts to create a good project. Although it is more difficult in the hot market that we are, they are still out there. Perhaps listen to one of the last BP podcasts with J Scott was the guest, as they talk about having a strategy in the upcoming year where a possible dip could occur.

Would love to help you with some insider tips, however, I moved from the Netherlands to Spain and I am active there in Barcelona and Valencia. Btw, I am also working in the IT sector. What I can advise you, though, is attending one of the meet ups already out there. Recently, I went to one hosted in Amsterdam by @Geert Schuring (not sure if the hyperlink is working). There you will get to know potential interesting contacts.

Good luck and feel free to reach out at any time,

Erwin
