Hello, Bigger Pockets Community,

My name is Steve, and I am so glad to have discovered Bigger Pockets. I live about one hour north of Houston. I am brand new to real estate and have no experience beyond personal purchases. My wife and I are coming to a transition in our occupation which we are almost certain is real estate. Currently, we are educating ourselves. The strategy that is most appealing to us is purchasing SFH to rehab for rentals. However, we are learning much as we are reading. Presumptions we had on debt are being challenged.

Other ideas being challenged are the views of doing all the rehab ourselves to save money. We have remodeled the house we live in ourselves. I worked for a local general contractor in high school and college. I think I have a better eye for quality than the skill to produce it.

It will be great when we start meeting people in person. Bigger Pockets has been an encouragement to expect to develop relationships with others involved in real estate.

Something else I have loved about Bigger Pockets is that there seems to set new horizons that I didn’t know I could dream about. I find my dreams to be challenged as mediocre frequently. It was a stretch to think of myself as a landlord, but now an Investor, wow!

I am considering taking realtor courses.

One question: On the forums, how does “votes” work?

Thank you Bigger Pockets, it is great to be here.
