Help! What should my next steps be?

Hi!

I recently lost my job which helped make my decision to get into flipping/property investments. The issue is I'm broke with really bad credit. I've read a ton of material and watched tons of videos on flipping. A lot of people are trying to give me advice to either become an RE agent first, work for a developer, take out loans etc... I want to be a part of it - I would love to work and help with actually building up the house so I guess my question is what is the best step for me? Should I work under a contractor and learn the ropes so that I know what to do later on in my own flips, work for a developer, or just do real estate? I can't seem to find an investor or flipper who wants to teach me. I'm smart, a quick-learner and really good at research, finding deals and am very good at design and spacial planning. Please note that all of these "jobs" are unpaid and I don't have a safety-net. I just want to find something that will help me learn the most.

I'm located in NYC/NJ.

My end goal is having the money to flip a few homes until I can afford to buy and hold.
