Young and hungry! Need some advice.
Hello all,
At the age of fifteen I started my first business doing what I love; taking something most people see as mundane and normal -- a vehicle, and treating it as a piece of art; seeing the possibility of what it can be rather then what it is. I restored vintage cars and enjoyed every minute of it.
I started small with a used Volkswagen Beetle i bought with years of birthday savings for just $500. After a few weeks of work, i was able to sell it for $2500. 15 year old me thought I had the world in my pocket.
That first deal opened me up to the idea that success is directly dependent on the effort you put in. My passion was my fuel, and throughout high school I bought and sold nearly 20 vehicles. I had a taste of money and I needed more.
I had entered business school, completed 2 years, and realized it was not for me. I needed more to ignite that passion and books just wouldn't cut it. I left school, started a crypto-currency based trading app and failed. the unstable nature behind crypto's was too uncertain to succeed as an investment platform. I picked myself back up.
Through this venture I had made many contacts, and soon entered into a job working in finance. I am currently making great money here and have the itch yet again. I want to start building wealth. Real estate seems like the next natural progression for me.
Over the last few months i have been reading anything and everything I can find on how to make money in real estate, and it seems as though everyone has their own method. Well, i am here to find mine.
I am 22 years old, and put away just over $2500/per month in savings. My goal is to use the money I save to build long term wealth, not short term cash. The buy/hold strategy seems best fit for me.
My main question is for all you seasoned investors, what do you wish you had known when you were starting out? If you would pass along any wisdom that would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Dimitri
