New Real Estate Investor

Hi all,

First and foremost, I'd like to introduce myself to this forum as I've been a BP podcast listener for some time, but just now decided to join with an interest in being an active member of the community. I've just moved back to US from abroad and made a transition into working in real estate; I'm in asset management at a prominent owner/operator with a significant California portfolio (mostly multifamily but also has commercial). I worked in investment banking and financial services for about a decade before making my transition.

I'm looking to start investing but having trouble finding the right geography. My ideal first investment would be a 2-4 plex. Prices here in my native Los Angeles are currently exorbitant (IMHO) and I've started researching other geographies in western US. Currently on my list: SLC, Denver, Seattle, Portland, Austin. Any tips from the BP community on how to approach this?

I'm generally happy to engage on the above topic or anything else related to RE investing. Looking forward to connecting!

Jonathan
