New long-distance investor in Japan, investing in Mpls

Hey everyone,

My name is Shu and I'm a huge fan of the Bigger Pockets podcast show and the books. My wife, who is from Minneapolis, and I currently live in Japan and are looking into investing in properties in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN.

We've recently had a couple of duplex offers fall through during the inspection period. Now we are looking into starting with a single-family home or even condo.

Our goal is to generate $3K/month of cash flow in three years and we got some cash. What's the best strategy to reach our goal?

Thanks,

Shu

Thanks for a thorough response to my post, @Tim Swierczek. I feel that small multifamily properties are the way to go but like you said, I've noticed that those are hard to find. We have enough cash for downpayment on several SFRs or a few duplexes right now. We feel that we are definitely ready to begin our real estate investing journey but like many have said, the first deal is scary! I believe that it's all going to work out at the end as long as I consistently apply the learning from each purchase.
