I'm so excited to moving towards real estate

Hello everyone,

This is Eris. I've been listening to BiggerPockets Money podcast as well as the RE one.

I was a high school math teacher but I didn't like the job and wanted to quit after 2 years into the teaching. Plus I've always wanted to be a landlady. I knew I need money. So I figured I should start a business that way I could accumulate some savings for my real estate. So I did and ended up with $150k debt (still have about $100k). I was making $40k before tax as a teacher but now I'm making $100k on average. Yet your income doesn't equal to your wealth!

Anyways, I bought a house this year. I rented out 2 of the 3 rooms upstairs and I live on the first floor. I am not able to live for free but the rents help cover some of the mortgage.

I also bought a new car (huge regret!) but I need a car to commute to work (15 miles away). I bought my previous one and owned it for 10 years. Due to some reasons, I have to close (I kind of want to at the same time) my business. However, I'm so excited and yet scared at the same time to start the journey on becoming a landlady!

Thank you BiggerPockets for forming such a community so that we can support each other and share with each other!

Hello! @Eris T.

Welcome to BP, and congratulations on making the decision to invest in your future via real estate.

I have written a few blog posts that may help you get started here on BP, and with your investing. Please click on the links, give them a read, and share your thoughts in the comments.

First is a post that I feel will help not get overwhelmed with the amount of info that is here on BP:

https://www.biggerpockets.com/blogs/5868/52761-the-simple-guide-to-getting-started-on-bp

The second is a post that will help get you focused with your real estate investing goals:

The last one is a post that will help you choose an “investor friendly” real estate agent. There are many agents out there, but it’s important to choose the right one.

I have other blogs that may be helpful here on BP in my personal blog that you can check out. Good Luck :)
