New member, Novice Investor looking to grow from Denver, CO
Hi Bigger Pockets Community!
My name is Erik Derenne and I've just joined (and became a Pro member) in the last week. I currently live in the Denver, CO area where I own two properties: a downtown condo, which I currently rent out and and am only breaking even on (but building good equity) and an Aurora SFH where I currently live with my wife and young kids. We've put a lot of work into this house and raised the value (the market helped significantly too) and always anticipated holding onto it as another rental when we were ready to upgrade.
My background is 12 years in Enterprise software consulting and presales (all for the same company, no less). In this role I've gotten a wealth of experience working in teams, adapting to new technologies & industry verticals, and learning to solve problems in the area of corporate procurement. I've always enjoyed my job, but always felt deep down that I eventually wanted out of the "Rat Race" and to become my own boss and control my financial destiny.
Well, let's just say that I was recently re-inspired to take some action towards this dream of F.I. and to breathe some life into my RE business. I began inhaling books and podcasts on wealth building, REI, property management, personal improvement and was in-turn led to the BP community where I've been consuming content like crazy and just attended my first webinar. I'm now ready to actually turn my "company" (LLC) into a BUSINESS and follow some of the great guidance and ideas I've learned. This long-overdue introduction post is my first step in this direction.
My primary goal is to get into multi-family (5+) units, but I'm definitely open and looking at smaller multi-family and SFH as well either for rental, BRRRR, or fix & flip. It'd be great to stay local in the Denver area, but I'm also open to other, growing marketplaces and places I've had past experience if (like Atlanta, GA or Milwaukee, WI). I know a few folks here in Denver in the residential real estate space, but do not have a team yet, so will be looking to build that as my next step, but am also actively searching for any like-minded people who want to connect, maybe grab a coffee and chat about real estate.
I hope to hear from many of you and meet some of you soon at the local meet-ups and event that I'm excited to start attending!
Cheers,
Erik
