Newbie from the East Coast looking to join others in REI
Hello Everyone,
I'm a newbie from Boston area and have been always interested in REI and specifically in Multi-Family Units. Looking forward to connect with like-minded folks and exchange opportunities.
Hey @Mora Clark! I'm Stephanie, a newbie wholesaler just outside of Philly area. Same here, had an interest in real estate, but didn't know where to start. I saw Tony Robbins, along with others, at a recent summit and ended up getting into real estate lol.
Welcome!
-Stephanie
Welcome to BP!
@Stephanie Marquez That's awesome! Glad to see more women in the REI world ;) I didn't get a chance to see Tony Robbins yet, so jealous of you! But I am inspired and got to this point because of books and podcasts lol. Can't wait to learn more from everyone here!
@Steve Bracero Thank you! :)
@Mora Clark Yes, lady! Let's do it!
@Mora Clark welcome. Take advantage of all that is offered here then graduate to networking events. I have yet to take advantage of that one but its on my list of things to do!
I'd start attending local networking events right away, and not wait until you've plowed through the hundreds of thousands of posts, articles and podcasts here on BP. Both are valuable.
You should start by narrowing down the part of real estate that interests you. When you talk to people about what they do, you can start to evaluate whether you would enjoy doing what they are doing. I think it's important that you work at something that suits both your interests, your skills, and your basic personality.
If you tell us where you are located in the Boston area, I can recommend some groups. There is also an events page on BP.
@Ann Bellamy Thanks Ann! I live in Swampscott and work in Downtown Boston. That would be great if you could recommend some local group or event. I’m interested in small multi-family units both local and out of state.
Here is one next week, my partner Nick is hosting it:

I'm told Boston Wealth Builders is a good one, although I've not been to it. Find them on Meetup.
@Justin Silverio runs a quarterly group, you can ask to be on his email list.
I host Black Diamond, and we will be scheduling an event on due diligence for out-of-area investing, it's currently in the planning stages, so we haven't scheduled it yet, but it will be posted here on BP in the events section - maybe October. We are also on Meetup and you can join our email list at BlackDiamondREI.com
@Ann Bellamy do you know of any that focus, or at least touch on, commercial outside of multis/apartments? Given most of the focus here and in the networking groups are in the residential space, I have looked into setting up a Facebook group at least for people interested/working in the commercial space.
Black Diamond has quite a bit of commercial. Our next topic on July 17 in Worcester is specifically 101 Mistakes in Commercial Development. You'd think I set you up to ask that so I could promote it, but of course you know that's not the case. Worcester is a drive from Quincy, of course.
@Ann Bellamy Fantastic! I'll will definitely check that out and join the email list. Thanks again!
@Eric Stafford I think having a facebook group is a great idea, at least narrowing down on the niche.
@Mora Clark Welcome to BP - I'm sorta a newbie. Been on the site for almost a year and finally got my deal. Plenty to learn and if you have questions this is an awesome resource.
@Stephanie Marquez I'm also in the Philadelphia area. Have you joined DIG (Diversified Investor Group)? It's a great opportunity to network with investors in the area. I'd love to meet you at an event if you decide to join.
@Ann Bellamy Thank you! I have family in Worcester so I can kill two birds with one stone. :)
@Alicia H. Congrats on your deal! I'm hopping to get my first one by the end of this year. Did you get your deal in your area or out of state?
@Mora Clark Thank you! This was a deal in my area. It was essentially wholesaled to me from another investor who bought the property at a sheriff sale.
Thanks @Ann Bellamy.
Hi @Mora Clark. As Ann mentioned, I hold a quarterly networking event. The next one is actually next week at one of my high end renovations in South Boston. You're welcome to join. It's on Wed at 6:30. Feel free to PM me for details.
Also, I am hosting the Boston Wealth Builders group at the same renovation this Saturday if that works better for you. Either way, I'm happy to get you involved with my group.
Also, the group that Ann mentioned, Black Diamond is excellent!
Hello and Welcome!
I've been a Realtor on the Cape for 10 years. The last 4 with Keller Williams of Cape Cod and the Islands. Something to think about might be resort residential. Have a pro like Tracie Vincent manage it for you. https://www.turnkeyvr.com/vacation-rentals/massach... . You get instant worry free income and a vacation spot when you aren't booked.
Steve
Welcome @Mora Clark!
I’ll second @Steven Baty’s Cape rec and also his PM rec of Tracie!
I do short term VR’s on the Cape as well. Happy to answer any Q’s.
@Justin Silverio Thank you Justin! I've joined your group on MeetUp. Hope to see you at the next meeting.
@Steven Baty Interesting! I've never actually never thought of the VR. Where do I get more info about those listings?
@Steven Malatesta Thanks Steven! How do you like to VR compared to other REI? I know it's seasonal only, so are you keeping the cash flow in the off season? (If you don't mind my Rookie's questions) :D
Traci Made a presentation to our monthly Partners Meeting. I was impressed with her product and her personally. I've never run numbers against other VR managers.
Welcome to Bigger Pockets.
@Mora Clark If you are free on Wednesday you should come check out the Meet up in Somerville at Tony C's Sports Bar and Grill 699 Assembly Row, Somerville MA 02145. The next meet up is on Wednesday June 27th @ 630pm to 830pm. The more you learn the more you earn!!!
@George Blower Thanks George!
@Josue Velney sounds great! I'll definitely be there. Hope to network with everyone.
